Tesco has been swamped with complaints over the way it has handled its Big Christmas Exchange Voucher campaign redemption.

The deal finished last weekend and offered shoppers the chance to double the value of points and vouchers held on Clubcards.

Shoppers had until Sunday to claim the double value and shoppers faced long queues to convert their vouchers. Many gave up and went to the website instead, but the site could not cope with the number of people logging on.

The level of redemption obviously caught Tesco off guard.

The promotion allowed every £5 in Clubcard vouchers to be exchanged for a £10 rewards token to spend on toys, clothing, baby and selected electricals.

Online forums have been flooded with complaints.

Tesco told the Daily Mail: “We experienced a huge last-minute rush over the weekend.

“This meant that some customers were not able to exchange their vouchers or had problems with the process, and missed the deadline of 5th December.

“We are doing everything we can at our customer service centres to help those customers affected.”
