Tesco has set out three social ambitions for its business with a new focus on opportunities for young people, health and food waste.

In its first Tesco and Society Report, the grocer’s three ambitions aim to provide opportunities for young people, helping customers and colleagues to live healthier lives, and reducing food waste globally.

Tesco said the report builds on the work it has already started and follows the launch earlier this year of its commitment to “use our scale for good”.

Tesco chief executive Philip Clarke said: “At Tesco we want to put in more than we take out and we want that to apply to everything we do.

“Our scale gives us an opportunity to make a positive difference to some of the biggest challenges facing the world. We have given a lot of thought to where we are most relevant and where we have an authentic contribution to make. These ambitions express our determination to use our scale for good to create greater value for society.”
