Tesco is extending its same-day click and collect grocery service as it ramps up its multichannel credentials.

The supermarket giant is rolling out new collection slots, which will allow customers to pick up their groceries from midday onwards when they order before 9am.

Tesco’s existing offer gives the customers the option of ordering shopping online by 1pm for collection after 4pm.

The new service will be available in more than 300 stores across the UK.

It comes after Tesco recorded a 20% spike in the number of customers using grocery click and collect over the past year.

Tesco said its same-day click and collect option had proved “particularly popular”, with 10% of all Click and Collect orders now placed and picked up on the same day.

Tesco’s managing director of online Adrian Letts said: “More customers than ever are choosing to use our grocery click and collect service which is [why] we’ve decided to introduce a new same-day collection slot.

“We offer a range of ways to shop with Tesco and Click and Collect means customers can choose to pick up their shopping at a time and location that suits them, without having to hit the aisles themselves.”

The move further enhances Tesco’s multichannel and fulfilment propositions.

As well as click and collect, it also offers same-day home delivery to customers in London and the South-east, where shoppers who order before 1pm can have their goods delivered from 6pm.
