Dunnes has lifted the lid on its new premium concept in Ireland as it ups the ante in the ongoing battle with grocery rival Tesco.

The new format, located inside a shopping centre in St Stephens Green, Dublin, is geared around a convenience shopping mission with a revamped delicatessen and hot food counters.

It is one of two stores Dunnes has revamped under the new format and the retailer is expected to roll the concept out to more sites in the coming months.

Steve Dresser, director of website Grocery Insight, visited the store and took these images.

He said: “The store was much improved from before, where it looked as though it had been forgotten about and costs cut massively.

“The store experiences a low basket spend but high transaction count, boosted by the store location, both inside a shopping centre and near St Stephen’s Green in Dublin.

“A focus on food service, with third-party concessions and a stronger food-to-go offer, strengthens the proportion significantly.”
