Nine more branches of Stokes, the independent greengrocer that was put into administration last week, have been closed with a lost of 72 jobs.

The latest closures are on top of the 10 stores that shut last week, leaving only seven open and 104 staff. Ten stores were already closed before the company was put into administration.

Richard Hill, joint administrator and partner at KPMG, said: “While we remain in negotiations regarding the sale of the seven stores which are continuing to trade, the shops that are closing today have not attracted interest as a going concern. We hope, however, to be able to provide an update on the sale of the remaining stores very soon.”

Stokes is headquartered in Bristol, with stores in the South West and Wales. Its remaining stores are in Bath, Brixham, Cowley Dawlish, Exmouth, Paignton and Teignmouth.
