Gourmet New York deli Dean & DeLuca has unveiled plans to open a food shop in London’s Mayfair early next year.

The New York deli, famed for its appearances in the 2001 film Hannibal and the 1991 novel American Psycho, is opening on 117 Mount Street at the start of next year.

The London store marks the gourmet food retailer’s first venture in Europe.

Dean & DeLuca – a favourite among celebrities such as Taylor Swift and Helen Mirren – currently has 11 shops in the US as well as six in the Middle East and Asia. 

The 1,900 sq ft Dean & DeLuca store, for which the lease was agreed by the London landlord Grosvenor, will stand alongside brands such as Christopher Kane and Roksanda.

According to reports, the store will open on the site where London butcher Allens of Mayfair once stood.

On Twitter, Dean & DeLuca describes itself as “the world’s leading purveyor of fine food and epicurean products”.

Its luxury range includes rib roast for £340 and a sour cherry pie for around £34.
