The founder of Wolt, a business acquired by DoorDash in 2022, has been named as the new chief executive of Deliveroo, after its acquisition by American giant DoorDash was completed yesterday.
In an open letter published on the RNS this morning, DoorDash co-founder and chief executive Tony Xu said it marked “the beginning of a new chapter, not the end of an old one” and added that “the Deliveroo app and products you know and love aren’t going anywhere”.
Xu said that “by combining DoorDash’s global scale and technology, we have the opportunity to serve more people, in more places, with greater impact”.
He named Miki Kuusi as the new chief executive of the company, who is also head of international at DoorDash. He replaces Deliveroo founder and former chief executive Will Shu, who announced last month he would step down from his business after the acquisition was completed.
Finish entrepreneur Kuusi, who founded delivery app Wolt in 2014, will relocate to London in the “coming months” to take on the new role.
“Having known Will and others from the Deliveroo team for many years, I’ve always admired what they have built: a strong brand, a great product, and world-class operations,” he said.
“I want to thank Wil in particular for everything he has done for Deliveroo and the industry as a whole. It’s remarkable what this team has built and accomplished. I couldn’t be more excited to learn from each other as we take our shared mission to the next level.”
