Marks & Spencer has ditched its “credit crunch” 75p jam sandwich after it failed to lure recession weary shoppers.

The sandwich was launched as part of its Simply range to attract recession-hit shoppers and M&S had hoped to cash in on the growing demand for “nostalgic” foods.

A worker in its Kensington High Street store said: “They just weren’t selling. We had lots left over at the end of the day.”

An Marks & Spencer spokesman said that the sandwich may not return to its shelves and added that it was common to change products seasonally.
