Grocery inflation eases as Lidl leapfrogs Morrisons as fifth-largest grocer

Grocery inflation eased in early May, as discounter Lidl’s consistent growth saw it finally leapfrog supermarket chain Morrisons.

Like-for-like grocery prices rose by 3.1% in the four weeks to May 17, which was the slowest rate of increase since December 2025, according to the latest grocery market share data from Worldpanel by Numerator.
