Deliveroo has unveiled a new click-and-collect service to allow customers to pick up food at participating restaurants through its app.

The food delivery business said more than 700 restaurants in 13 UK cities have already signed up to the new Pickup service. It anticipates over 10,000 signing up within the next 12 months.

It said that its click-and-collect service will also save customers “time and money as they won’t have to wait in a queue for their order to be prepared or pay a delivery fee”.

A number of high street restaurant staples have signed up for the launch including Byron, Pizza Express and Pizza Hut.

Deliveroo said it expects to sign up another 10,000 restaurants to work with in the UK in the next six months, taking the total the company will work with to 30,000.

Vice president, new businesses, for Deliveroo, Ajay Lakhwani, said: “Deliveroo’s new Pickup service will give customers even more opportunities to order amazing food from their favourite restaurants. Gone are the days of standing in a queue waiting to take-away your food. Pickup customers can collect their meal exactly when they want.

“This service opens up even more choice and selection for consumers while providing a new revenue stream for restaurants.

“This is another move towards Deliveroo being the definitive food company, offering the widest selection of foods for all occasions.”

Deliveroo has been increasingly active in the grocery delivery space in recent years, launching a pizza delivery service with Sainsbury’s in July, and working with the Co-op on home delivery in some neighbourhoods since the beginning of 2018.
