Coffee chain Esquires will open branches in five Tesco supermarkets in Ireland before the end of next month.

Esquires, owned by New Zealand-based firm Cooks Coffee Company, is billed as the Organic Coffee Company. According to its website, it currently has 19 branches in Ireland.

The five stores will open in Tesco stores in Ardkeen, Waterford; Wexford Town; Clonmel; Tullamore; and Youghal. All of these will be operated by existing Esquires franchisees in Ireland. Tesco has 193 stores in Ireland in total.

The supermarket chain already has a longstanding partnership with Costa Coffee to provide concessions within its store network. In the UK, the Harris + Hoole brand that Tesco cofounded also used to be a regular presence before current owner Caffè Nero decided to focus on its high street outlets.

A Cooks Coffee Company statement announcing the new Esquires stores said: “Both parties view this as a highly complementary partnership, bringing the Esquires premium coffee and food offering to select Tesco locations.”

Chief executive Aiden Keegan added: “We are delighted to be rolling out our stores within Tesco in Ireland, and we are looking forward to working with Tesco.”
