Asda has become the latest established supermarket to move into the rapid grocery delivery space with the launch of its one-hour Express Delivery service.

The retailer said the launch comes after a “successful trial” and that its Express Delivery service would be the first to offer its full 30,000-plus strong range of products to customers in a one-hour delivery slot.

The Express Delivery service is being launched from three Asda stores this week, with customers living within a three-mile radius of the retailer’s Halifax, Rotherham and Poole stores able to use the new service.

Customers will be able to order circa 70 items from Asda.com per basket for one-hour delivery, with each Express Delivery order being charged a flat £8.50 fee. Customers can pick unlimited basket sizes and slots of up to four hour delivery times as well.

Asda will also be rolling out a feature enabling customers to track express deliveries from the store to their doors, and the retailer said there was the “potential to quickly roll out the service to more stores if it proves popular with customers”.

The retailer’s vice-president of online grocery Simon Gregg said: “After successfully trialling an Express Delivery service, we know this is something that our customers want as part of our online grocery proposition and we are delighted to be able to offer this service to even more customers.

“The launch of our new Express Delivery service and extension of our existing partnership with Uber Eats to 300 stores means that customers can get their order delivered to the doorstep at market-leading pace.”

Asda also announced it would be expanding its existing partnership with Uber Eats to more than 300 of its stores nationwide.
