The grocer has opened its first home shopping centre, designed to extend retail capacity in its busiest locations.

The centre, at Morley in Leeds, allows staff to pick product for home delivery in an area previously covered by five stores; in Killingbeck, Morley, Pudsey, Huddersfield and Bradford.

The centre is on two floors, with refrigerated stock on the ground floor and ambient products housed on a mezzanine. It has been opened with the objective of doubling customer numbers locally.

An Asda spokesman said: “The mezzanine level looks exactly like a store and even has a full bakery for which colleagues come in at midnight each day and bake to order. The centre is very much a trial but we’re pleased with the first couple of days.”
