Asda has launched a TV ad campaign featuring three Easter chicks as the grocer looks to pull in customers over the crucial trading period.

The “Something to tweet about” TV ad features the chicks perched outside their different coloured birdhouses, with each one representing a different competitor supermarket. Another bird pops out of a green birdhouse, representing Asda, which is pulsating to the sound of the 80’s disco classic ‘Funky Town’.

Asda's Easter TV ad

Asda said the ad is designed to demonstrate that while the first three supermarket chicks watch on, the Asda chick is doing something very different.

The TV ad will be supported by a social media campaign, which invites fans to create their own personalised chick dance routine. Users will be able to share their personalised chick online and add the #AsdaChick hashtag. The campaign site will go live later this week.

Asda chief customer officer Stephen Smith said: “Easter has always been a time for celebration, with families all over the UK getting together to share in the occasion. Our latest ad captures this sense of fun and brings a little of Asda’s well-known personality to our advertising, this time in the form of a dancing chick!”
