Aldi has been given the green light to extend its head office and warehouse in Warwickshire, which the grocer said will create 850 new jobs.
Plans for an extension to the discounter’s existing Atherstone headquarters have been approved by the local council. The blueprint includes a multi-storey car park with 596 spaces, an 87,000 sq ft office extension and the construction of over 120,000 sq ft of new warehouse space.
The first phase of the development will feature two new office blocks and the new warehouse. A further two office buildings have been earmarked for construction later.
Aldi said the first phase of the expansion is expected to support around 50 new jobs in the warehouse, and at least 375 new office jobs. The second phase will create a further 440 jobs.
Aldi said: “The proposal provides a significant contribution to the region in terms of creating stable long-term jobs, which provide an income that is in excess of existing market rates.
“This new phase of development will boost the economy, locally, regionally and nationally as the proposal is required to support the ongoing growth of the business which has been expanding year on year since arriving in the UK in 1990.”
The work could take up to five years to complete.
