Discounter Aldi has rolled out its click-and-collect trial to its first store, making the service available to customers for the first time.

The retailer said customers at its Allendale Road store in Loughborough will now be able to make grocery orders online and then pick them up from today, following a successful pilot trial of the service with staff that launched last Monday.

A click-and-collect slot currently costs customers £3.99 and the retailer said this would be the first time the full selection of Aldi products would be available online, and at the same prices as in-store.

The move is Aldi’s latest foray into ecommerce since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic in March.

In April, the discounter launched its first online food service, offering food parcels for vulnerable and shielding customers. It followed that in May with a tie-up with Deliveroo, which was subsequently expanded.

Aldi UK and Ireland chief executive Giles Hurley said: “We know that more and more people want to access the high-quality affordable food they know they can get at Aldi.

“This is yet another way we are innovating to make sure we best serve our existing customers and make Aldi’s great products and unbeatable prices available to even more people.”
