Aldi extends Deliveroo trial as discounter ramps up online capacity


Aldi is accelerating its move into grocery home delivery by expanding its existing trial with Deliveroo to nearly 130 stores.

Having announced last month it would be extending the trial to 42 stores nationally, Aldi said yesterday it had expanded the trial to a further nearly 90 additional stores in the past month and that customers in Scotland and Wales could now access the home delivery service. 

The move comes as Aldi continues to ramp up its online ecommerce capabilities, having historically steered clear of the market in the past. 

When the UK was plunged into the first coronavirus lockdown in the spring, Aldi launched its first online service when it started selling online food parcels to help self-isolating and vulnerable customers in April.
