Retail Week looks ahead to the next seven days, when the latest Kantar grocery market share data is the main scheduled agenda item.

Kantar grocery market data

In a quiet week for scheduled announcements, Tuesday’s Kantar’s grocery market share data is likely to be one of the main talking points.

Last month’s numbers showed that Asda was the best-performing among the big four supermarket groups for the first time since December 2014. Its sales climbed 3.7%.

Asda’s sales were powered by a 9% advance in its core own-label lines, enabling it to hold market share steady at 15.1%. The retailer also encouraged an additional 230,000 shoppers through its doors over the past 12 weeks.

Separately, Asda notched up its fifth consecutive quarter of increased like-for-like sales when parent Walmart updated on trading.

Bank holiday

Summer draws to a close with the bank holiday next weekend. If the weather is good, grocers and DIY groups will hope for a trading fillip as consumers make the most of the break.
