Asda outperforms industry again
The grocery market grew 5.3 per cent in the four weeks to February 25, compared with 4.8 per cent the previous month, according to market research firm TNS.

Asda outperformed the industry for the second month in a row, with sales growth of 8.6 per cent - significantly ahead of the 5.3 per cent industry figure.

Tesco remained buoyant, with sales growth accelerated to 7.7 per cent, compared with 6.7 per cent in January. Growth at Morrisons also shot up 4.9 per cent, compared with 2.8 per cent in January. However, Sainsbury's growth slowed slightly from 7.6 per cent to 7.4 per cent.

Seymour Pierce analyst Richard Ratner said: '[The] most interesting fact is that food sales appear to have fallen month on month, although [they are] still ahead by 5.3 per cent year on year, probably relating to - and supported the BRC findings - food price inflation coming off a bit.'
