Menswear chain Greenwoods has filed a notice of intention to appoint administrators.

The 100-store chain is believed to be in talks with Chinese retailer and manufacturer Bosideng International to buy the retailer. Bosideng has a 50 per cent stake in the business at present.

Bosideng signed a deal with Greenwoods in October last year to roll out 100 Bosideng stores in the UK over the next five years.

If a deal is agreed sources said that most shops and jobs should be saved.

Greenwoods is run by Hanson Partners. Its owner John Hanson was one of the names linked to buying competitor Moss Bros last year.
