Retail entrepreneur praises loyalty and commitment of employees
Philip Green's Bhs Group saw sales plateau for the 52 weeks ending March 27. Total sales for the period only rose by 0.9 per cent from£882.2 million to£889.9 million.

However, operating profit was up 5.8 per cent from£105.5 million to£111.6 million.

The retailer recorded like-for-like sales up by 1.3 per cent in the 6 weeks to August 29.

'I am pleased to announce another record operating profit performance in the company's 76-year history,' said Green. 'This solid base is due in large part to the loyalty commitment and passion shown by our 14,000 people, coupled with our efficient operating model. Bhs will be commencing its first media campaign, which will launch together with our Christmas gift shop this month. We are also pleased to have recruited both Stephanie Chen and Steve Lawton as womenswear and menswear buying directors.' Both have arrived from Debenhams.
