GlynWebb rolls out Java EPoS

Home Improvement retailer GlynWebb is replacing the EPoS equipment at all its 26 stores in a project that should finish by March next year.

The technology upgrade sees the retailer replacing its IBM EPoS systems with Java-enabled, wide-screen EPoS hardware from Wincor Nixdorf, in a bid to boost productivity.

Although the eight-year-old IBM hardware was coming to the end of its life, GlynWebb project manager Simon Bradshaw said speeding up the service to its 60,000 customers every week was the motive for the upgrade.

'The 15-inch touchscreens, which come with this system, make it easy for anyone to use the system. The prominent display it offers customers means less time is wasted on discrepancies,' said Bradshaw.

However, the limitations of the existing IBM system were not the most expensive problem. The lack of support for these legacy solutions made the EPoS systems unsustainable. 'They were high-maintenance systems, whereas Wincor Nixdorf is offering value,' said Bradshaw.

The roll-out begins in September at a new-concept store scheduled to open in Accrington, Lancashire.
