JD Sports has signed a marketing deal with live music venue operator Academy Music Group in an attempt to broaden appeal with trendy young gig-goers.

The sports fashion retailer's logo will appear at Carling Academy venues in Birmingham, Bristol, Glasgow, Liverpool and London's Brixton, Islington and Shepherd's Bush.

It will also launch a PR campaign next week, with in-store promotions and regional competitions for concert tickets.

Stores will have information on upcoming shows and club nights and sell exclusive tickets in-store. Customers will also be able to win gig tickets on the retailer's web site.

JD Sports chief executive Barry Bown said: 'Music and sports fashion has always been linked, which we have supported through work with individual bands. It seemed a natural next step to support live music of all kinds across the UK.'

The promotion is in line with the retailer's We Got It campaign. The year-long contract has been signed for an undisclosed sum.
