Matalan Direct, the retailer’s new ecommerce brand, has branched out into selling beds and bedroom furniture and is eyeing further expansion into the home furnishings market.

The online-only brand kicked off its launch in July by selling bathrooms and bathroom furniture.

Its new range will include children’s beds, unbranded bedframes, wardrobes, bedside cabinets and chest of drawers, as well as Silentnight bed frames and mattresses.

The retailer, which opened a store on Oxford Street earlier this year, wants to compete with big players such as Ikea, Homebase and Victoria Plumb.

Matalan Direct chief executive Shane Quigley said beds and bedroom furniture will be the “first of many” categories it will be introducing over “the coming months”.

He added: “The ultimate goal for Matalan Direct is to be able to offer everything you need to complete your home with just the click of a button.”
