Gear4Music has registered a spike in sales during the golden quarter as its proposition struck a chord with a growing number of customers.

The musical instruments and equipment etailer said total sales jumped 42% to £34.5m in the four months ending December 31, 2017.

Sales in its UK business climbed 25% to £18.7m during the period, while its rapidly growing overseas operations boasted a 69% surge in revenues to £15.8m.

Gear4Music said the performance was driven by a booming active customer base, which ballooned 38% to 450,000 at New Year’s Eve compared to the same day a year ago.

The online retailer also hailed improvements in online conversion, which improved from 3% to 3.3% year on year.

Gear4Music boss Andrew Wass said he was “very pleased” with its sales performance.

He added: “This has been achieved as we continue to invest in our customer proposition, marketing, people and websites, all with a view to enhancing our long-term growth prospects.

“We are confident that the group will continue to grow rapidly over the medium and longer term, as we continue our mission to become the best musical instrument and equipment retailer in Europe.”
