WHSmith has launched its brand-new hospital coffee shop format in Sheffield. It is set to be rolled out across the UK.
District Market Coffee has opened in Sheffield Northern General Hospital to introduce a “high-quality coffee shop and café” experience to customers visiting or staying at the hospital.
The new 1,084 sq ft shop offers food and drink for both dine-in and takeaway, with a wide range of products including fresh patisserie baked in-store, hot breakfasts and chilled meal deals. Coffee loyalty offers and a 10% NHS discount on all products are also available.
WHSmith has over 140 stores and franchises in hospitals across the UK, and the launch of District Market Coffee adds to the range of formats operating in hospitals, including Marks & Spencer Simply Food, Costa Coffee and other proprietary coffee brands.
The new shop will support the local community by offering only locally sourced coffee from Frazer’s Coffee Roasters in Sheffield, as well as showcasing the work of local artist Jo Peel in its interiors.
The coffee shop also partners with Too Good to Go to provide local charities and community groups with any surplus food, while donating 1% of its revenue to Sheffield Hospitals Charity.
A second District Market Coffee is due to open in Sheffield Royal Hallamshire Hospital in the next few weeks.
WHSmith UK travel managing director Andrew Harrison said: “We are excited to be opening the first District Market Coffee in the UK today. Whether it’s a quick bite to eat or a place to relax and recharge, District Market Coffee and its wide range of quality, locally sourced products is well set up to be a part of the hospital and wider community.
“This launch is the latest example of WHSmith’s growing experience and expertise in working with Hospital Trusts to deliver relevant, modern and customer-focused retail offers and we see further opportunities for growth ahead.”
