Concern over impact on small businesses
The minimum hourly wage for workers aged 22 and over will increase tomorrow from£4.85 to£5.05. For 18-to 21-year-olds, pay will rise from£4.10 to£4.25.

The Forum of Private Business today echoed concerns that the British Retail Consortium raised earlier this week. FPB chief executive Nick Goulding said he is concerned that the rise in the wage could cause businesses real pain.

He said: 'Big businesses can absorb increases as they employ relatively few staff on it. Small businesses are hit hardest.'

An FPB survey claims that 64 per cent of firms believe a further increase in the minimum wage will have a bad or very bad effect on their business.
