Bookseller Foyles is to shut its store at One New Change, the shopping centre located in the City of London.

The retailer is on a temporary contract at the shopping centre scheme, and said that it will close the store in April, when the 15-month lease expires.

Foyles said it is closing the shop to “free up resources both for the new Foyles at Westfield Stratford City and the recently expanded Foyles at Cabot Circus in Bristol”.

The shop opened in October last year, when the centre launched.

Land Securities, owners of One New Change, said the closure was expected, as Foyles is on a short term lease. A spokeswoman said that the developer is in discussions with other retailers about letting the store, which is likely to be another pop-up shop.

Staff at the store will be redeployed within Foyles. Its store at Westfield Stratford is due to open in early November.

Foyles chief executive Sam Husain said: “Our temporary shop at One New Change has been an incredible learning experience.

“We knew that 1,300 sq. ft. would not be big enough to do justice to our range and we therefore only committed to a short-term lease, expiring in April next year.

“Our newest shop in Westfield Stratford City is a much larger space which will allow us to play on our strengths of range and expertise.”
