Womenswear chain makes New York debut
Gap unveiled the first store in its new Forth & Towne womenswear chain in New York on Tuesday.

The US fashion giant, which operates the Banana Republic and Old Navy fascias, as well as its eponymous Gap stores, has aimed Forth & Towne at the over-35 female market, where Gap holds market share of less than 5 per cent. In comparison, the retailer has a 15 per cent share of the 18- to 34-year-old market.

Four more Forth & Towne stores are due to open in the Chicago region this week, with 20 more shops penned by 2007.

Women aged over 35 account for 39 per cent of womenswear spend in the US and are also the highest earners of any female age group.
