Carlos Criado-Perez, former boss of supermarket Safeway, has joined global investment banking business UBS.

Criado-Perez left Safeway in 2004 after its takeover by rival supermarket Morrisons. He joins Swiss firm UBS as a senior adviser and will advise on its activities in the retail sector.

He remains chairman of Spanish supermarket group Dinosol Supermercados and retains his board position at Russia’s biggest retailer X5.

Criado-Perez will report to joint global head of investment banking Alex Wilmot-Sitwell.
