Tourist spending still strong
The number of overseas visitors to the UK during May to August this year rose 8 per cent to 6.6 million, compared with the same period last year, according to National Statistics.

Spending by these visitors increased by 2 per cent in the three months to August, compared with the previous three months. However, trips abroad by UK residents rose 2 per cent over the summer, compared with the same period last year. National Statistics calculates that the result is a deficit to the UK of£4.1 billion.
