Gordon Montgomery, founder of independent music chain Fopp, has opened a music store in Cheltenham.

Called Rise, the music, film and books store opened at a former Fopp site at Beechwood Shopping Centre last Saturday.

In October, the retailer was established at Companies House under the name of Rise Bristol, with Montgomery as a director.

Fopp, which Montgomery founded from a market stall in Glasgow 25 years ago, went into administration in June. The brand and six stores were rescued by HMV. Those stores, in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Manchester, Nottingham, Cambridge and Covent Garden have now reopened.
