Shopper traffic fell 2.2% year-on-year in July, Experian’s Retail Footfall Index showed.

July is normally expected to deliver high footfall as a result of the combination of school holidays, summer Sales and holiday buying.

There are several possible reasons for the decline: summer Sales started earlier this year and the rising cost of living is making consumers think twice before spending.

The UK retail park index showed a 1%  year-on-year increase.
