Food retailers may face a BSE-style boycott of poultry as shoppers react to the threat of avian flu reaching the UK. Sainsbury's reported that sales of poultry have dipped over the past few days, following news that the virus had reached Romania and Turkey. M+M Planet Retail analyst Bryan Roberts said: 'The only coverage you're going to get of poultry as a commodity over the next six months is likely to be highly negative. There will be a significant effect on demand and it will be up to retailers to counteract this.'
