David Barclay and Jane Tozer join partnership board
John Lewis has appointed its first non-executive directors to the board.

The appointment of David Barclay and Jane Tozer MBE as non-executive directors for the next three years was announced today. The move was expected after the retailer said in June that it planned to recruit non-executive directors to the partnership board.

Barclay is vice-chairman of Dresdner Kleinwort. He holds a number of non-executive and advisory roles at companies including DrkW, VT Group, Wessex Water and MFI.

Tozer was chief executive of software development business Softwright until 1997. She presently works as an adviser and is a non-executive at SurfControl, The Pension Service and Retail Decisions.

John Lewis Partnership chairman Sir Stuart Hampson said: 'Our success makes us ever more alert to the continuous change within the markets we serve. The appointment of Jane and David will widen our peripheral vision, bring a different external experience and add fresh challenge and stimulus to our debates.'

The directors join finance director Marisa Cassoni, managing director Waitrose Steven Esom, managing director John Lewis Charlie Mayfield, development director Mark Price, director of personnel Andy Street and the five directors elected by the employees of the partnership to represent their interests.
