Topps Tiles has appointed former MP and non executive director Michael Jack as chairman.

He replaces Barry Bester, who has relinquished his role as chairman and as a director of the board with immediate effect.

Jack, who served as an MP for 23 years until May 2010, has been a non-executive director of Topps Tiles since 1999. Before this he held management positions in Procter & Gamble and Marks and Spencer.

He is currently an advisor to HSBC and remains a Privy Councillor and chair of the Office of Tax Simplification in the Treasury.

Topps Tiles said it has made “significant progress” towards the appointment of further non-executive directors.

Jack said: “Topps Tiles is a remarkable and robust company.  For me to have been chosen by the Board to succeed Barry Bester as its Chairman is a very great honour.

“I know we have a strong management team and great staff and I am looking forward to working with them all so that, together, we can continue the development of the range of products and services which our customers want.”
