SuperGroup sales soared 66% to £54m in its first quarter in the three months to July 31.

Retail sales were up 51% to £34m during the period. Supergroup, owner of trendy brand Superdry, said all of its channels continued to grow over the quarter.

Its fastest growing channel over the period was wholesale, with sales soaring 98% to £21m, as the retailer continued to grow the Superdry brand internationally.

The retailer now has 64 standalone stores in the UK, with two new shops opening during the quarter and a further two opening since the quarter end. It plans to accelerate new openings in the lead up to Christmas.

SuperGroup chief executive Julian Dunkerton said: “We see continued growth across our business – in the UK, overseas and via our internet platform. Our domestic and international roll-outs are on track and we remain excited about the group’s future prospects.  We are nevertheless operating in a difficult retail market which reflects the macro economic environment.”
