Two private equity firms have reaffirmed their interest in buying sofa retailer DFS and a third is expected to do so, despite doubt about whether a sale will be concluded.

Cinven and Permira both confirmed their interest ahead of a deadline and Advent International is likely to follow suit, the Financial Times reported.

A price tag of £500m is understood to have been attached to DFS, owned by founder lord Kirkham, but uncertainty persists about whether a deal will go ahead.

Potential buyers have been frustrated by the lack of information provided by the vendor and are unsure of the role that Kirkham would play after a sale.

DFS was one of the retail winners of the recession, which claimed the scalps of rival sofa specialists such as Land of Leather and ScS.
