Savile Row menswear retailer Gieves & Hawkes has appointed John Durnin, a former chief of luxury giant Richemont, as chief executive.

The appointment follows the departure of former chief executive Steven Walton, who left the business to move to Hong Kong where Gieves & Hawkes owner and property entrepreneur Christopher Chang is based.

Durnin was mostly recently based in Tokyo as chief executive of Richemont’s Luxury Asia Pacific division. As part of his role he was responsible for the global strategy and development of menswear and accessories business Alfred Dunhill.

Durnin managed Alfred Dunhill’s international retail, licensing and duty free businesses across Asia Pacific, Japan, mainland China, the US, Europe and the UK.
