Retail Week looks ahead to the next seven days, with updates from WHSmith, N Brown and the latest BRC-KPMG retail sales data all on the agenda.

Retail sales

The BRC-KPMG will publish its latest retail sales barometer on Tuesday, covering the month of September. Retail sales edged up 0.2% on a like-for-like basis in August, compared to the previous year. Total sales were up 1.3%, with online sales of non-food products driving the growth.

WHSmith

The stationery specialist unveils its full-year results on Thursday. WHSmith’s travel arm is again expected to drive the group’s top and bottom lines, as high street trading continues to prove turbulent. At WHSmith’s last update, covering its third quarter, the retailer said like for likes in its travel division were up 3%, while same-store sales on the high street slipped 1%.

N Brown

The fashion group reveals its interim results on Thursday, its first financial update since chief executive Angela Spindler left the business. Investors will be seeking an update on its search for a new boss and the future direction of the business. N Brown has transformed itself into a digital-first retailer over the past five years and said in June it would close all of its Jacamo, Simply Be and JD Williams-branded stores.
