Retail Week looks ahead to the next seven days, with the latest grocery market share data from Kantar and Nielsen on the agenda.

Grocery market share

Kantar and Nielsen both publish their latest grocery market share data on Wednesday.

According to Nielsen’s latest figures, covering the 12 weeks to April 22, supermarket sales jumped 8.6%.

Even stripping out the impact of the late Easter weekend, sales still rose 2.8%, representing the strongest year-on-year growth in 2017 so far.

Rival data from Kantar Worldpanel revealed similar positive signs for the sector, with grocery sales increasing 3.7% in the 12 weeks to April 23 – the fastest rate Kantar had recorded since September 2013.

According to Kantar, Easter helped all 10 major grocers record sales growth for the first time in more than three years, as the embattled Asda ended its barren run to register a 0.8% uplift.
