Retail Week looks ahead to the next seven days, with updates from Game, Conviviality, Moss Bros and DFS on the agenda.


The computer games specialist is due to report its interim results on Tuesday, March 27. Game is in the midst of a turnaround, with chief executive Martyn Gibbs striving to strengthen the business’ fledgling Esports and events divisions so it can hope to survive in the digital age.

As the proliferation of PC gaming and digital downloads have eaten into its retail division, Game has accelerated the roll-out of its Belong-branded in-store gaming arenas, and has signed a deal to install these in selected Sports Direct stores.


The beleaguered drinks retailer is due to deliver a full-year trading update on Tuesday.

Conviviality has had a torrid time of late, cancelling its dividend, issuing a profit warning and now facing a cash squeeze after discovering it must pay HMRC £30m by the end of this month. Investors will be keen to see what management have to say for themselves.

Moss Bros

The formal menswear specialist posts a full-year trading update on Tuesday. Back in January, Moss Bros cautioned that pre-tax profit would come in between £6.5m and £6.8m, “slightly below” market expectations.

The business blamed market “volatility” for an 8% slump in like-for-likes in December – and the City will be keeping a close on eye on how much that has impacted both its bottom line and projections for its new financial year.


The sofa stalwart is due to report its interim results on Wednesday, March 28. DFS has demonstrated resilience in a challenging market, while other traditional furniture firms, such as Multiyork and Steinhoff-owned Harveys, struggle around it.

That said, DFS is not without its challenges – it issued a profit warning last June and pointed to volatile consumer confidence. DFS snapped up younger rival Sofology last year and bought parts of Multiyork out of administration as it seeks to expand its portfolio of brands.
