Italian car giant Ferrari is set to power into London’s Regent Street with the opening of its first UK store.

The store, which will occupy the former Racing Green site, will also be its first European high street shop outside Italy. The car giant will stock merchandise such as clothing, accessories, model cars, collectibles and books. Ferrari is familiar with the British market because it already delivers merchandise to the UK through its online store.

Ferrari has 10 stores in Europe, including nine in Italy and one at Barcelona airport. Its Italian stores are in Milan, Rome, Venice and Maranello. It also has airport shops in Bologna, Milan and Rome.

The 7,000 sq ft (650 sq m) Regent Street store will open later this year. It will sit alongside other global retailers such as Zara, Burberry and Armani Exchange.

Beyond Europe, Ferrari has stores in Beijing, Macau, Shenyang and Hangzhou in China, Las Vegas, Al Khobar in Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi and Singapore.

The Regent Street store has been the subject of much speculation since Racing Green vacated the site as part of a recovery programme by parent company Speciality Retail Group.

At the beginning of March, luxury watch brand Omega scrapped plans to open its second UK store on the site, after it had been in talks with the landlord since December.

Ferrari is one of a flood of new retailers to Regent Street. Swedish fashion giant H&M opened a 32,295 sq ft (3,000 sq m) store in one of the units created on the former Dickins & Jones site in February to join mobile communications giant Nokia. Gap sister brand Banana Republic opened its corner site next door to H&M at the end of March.

Agent CBRE acted for the landlord and Ferrari was represented by Kitchen La Frenais Morgan.

Ferrari declined to comment.
