Superdry has hired the former chief financial officers of M&S and New Look to its board.
Helen Weir, who was most recently M&S CFO from 2015 to 2018, will become senior independent director. Prior to her stint at M&S, she held the same role at John Lewis Partnership and has held senior finance roles at Lloyds Bank and Kingfisher. She is currently on the boards of Just East and the RFU.
Alastair Miller was CFO of New Look from 2000 to 2014. Since then, he has worked on a consultancy basis and served as senior independent director of property firm NewRiver. He will chair the retailer’s audit committee.
Superdry, which hired former Wiggle finance boss Nick Gresham as interim chief financial officer in May, has been forced to populate its board rapidly due to the wholesale walkout of the previous board when co-founder Julian Dunkerton was re-elected after a campaign to restore him to a position of power at the retailer, which has performed poorly over the last year.
Chairman Peter Williams, who supported Dunkerton’s bid, said: “Since becoming chairman in April it has been a priority of mine to restore the board to full strength and these appointments are a big step in that direction.
“Both Helen and Alastair have extensive relevant experience in the retail sector and have served as CFOs of major listed companies. As such I am sure they will both prove excellent additions to the board as Superdry embarks on its turnaround.”
The retailer is still in the process of recruiting two more non-executive directors.
