Knocking through to the vacated BHS store will allow Next to double its footprint at Newcastle Intu Metrocentre

Next is doubling the size of its current store by taking on the vacated BHS shop. The refurbished site, which will open in early 2018, will be one of the biggest-ever stores for Next.

BHS’s former stores have been picked up by other retailers on a piecemeal basis. Mike Ashley’s upmarket womenswear retailer Flannels assumed its Jersey store, while Primark, Poundworld and Fabb Sofas have also taken on shops.

The department store chain collapsed into administration in April this year, following its sale to Retail Acquisitions.

Its collapse is currently the subject of a Serious Fraud Office investigation.

BHS.com was relaunched last month by the buyer of its international and online operations Al Mana Group.
