Lipsy, the young fashion brand owned by Next, is in talks with US retailers to make its first foray into the country.

The brand is mulling opening a concession to test the appetite of the US market.

Next launched a standalone US website last year, but the retailer does not have a store presence in the country. A deal has yet to be signed for the first Lipsy concession.

Next denied speculation it was seeking to open Lipsy standalone stores in New York or the rest of the US.

Several UK retailers have outlined plans to test the US market and many multichannel operators have been successful. Net-a-Porter and Boden have a strong presence in the market and this year Asos and N Brown are looking at launching standalone sites for the country.

Next bought Lipsy in October 2008 for £17.4m to give it exposure to a younger customer.
