M&S has made 40 womenswear lines available in what it said is the biggest retailer collaboration so far for Hirestreet. M&S is an investor in Hirestreet, which carries products from 50 fashion brands.

M&S items available include clothing from its Autograph and Per Una ranges, with prices starting from £10.

Marks & Spencer clothing and home managing director Richard Price said: “Our focus is ensuring our product is more relevant, more often for our customers’ lives. That’s not just what we offer but how.

”We know customers are increasingly interested in the circular economy and rental which is why we started our partnership with Hirestreet last year

“The feedback so far has been great. We’re continuing to test and learn this spring/summer with a new collection which is perfect for a range of occasions including the holidays and special events we know consumers are really looking forward to.”

M&S said although fashion rental is typically associated with formal dressing, 53% of Hirestreet customers rent M&S products for casual social events.

M&S has so far been the most popular brand included in ‘bundles’ by Hirestreet customers. A quarter of all such bundles – enabling customers to choose three outfits for a 30-day period for £50 – contain an M&S product.

The demolition of M&S’ flagship store on Oxford Street will also go ahead after London Mayor Sadiq Khan has given Westminister Council approval for the plan to proceed.

M&S plans to replace the Art Deco building with a new block which will house a smaller shop, as well as offices and a gym.

Critics of the move argue the existing building should instead be retrofitted in order to minimise the environmental impact of the development.
