Wrigley is currently chairman of Majestic Wine and LXB Retail Properties, as well as a non-executive director of restaurant chain Carluccio’s.

Wrigley, who has worked in retail for more than 30 years, was chief executive and then chairman of New Look and has also been a director at BHS.

He succeeds Iain MacRitchie as Hobbs chairman who took up the role for a three-year term in January 2011.

Hobbs chief executive Nicky Dulieu said: “I would like to thank Iain for his contribution over the past three years and am thrilled to welcome Phil to the company. Phil’s extensive retail experience and knowledge will be an excellent addition to Hobbs as we move towards an exciting phase of growth; maximising our potential in the UK and also successfully entering new overseas markets.”

Wrigley said: “Hobbs is a brand with a rich design heritage and I look forward to working with the management team to grow the business both in the UK and internationally.”

MacRitchie added: “I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Hobbs over the past three years and feel that now is the right time to handover to a new chairman. I wish Phil and the team every success in taking the company to the next phase of its development.”
