H&M has hired a new boss of its UK and Ireland division following the promotion of Carlos Duarte to global head of sales and operations.

Toni Galli, who has been with the business for 14 years, joins from the Canadian division of the business, where she was country manager. She began her UK role in September.

Galli began her career with the multinational giant in Canada and rose quickly through the ranks, making the journey from store manager to country manager in four years. She was managed the country for just over a decade.

The retail giant has suffered recently following strategic missteps amid the digitalisation of the retail industry with its main fascia responsible for its downturn. Its smaller fascias, including Cos, Monki and & Other Stories, all performed well.

Galli’s main task will be to right the UK market, which is H&M third biggest after Germany and the US, a step that needs to be mirrored across its established markets.
