High-end fashion retailer Burberry has unveiled plans to transfer around 300 of its head office staff to a new base in Leeds, Yorkshire.

Burberry said the new office building, due to open in October, would generate “significant savings” for the business by allowing it to reduce its office space requirements in London.

It also justified the move by claiming it would simplify processes, foster teamwork across functions and strengthen its ties with Yorkshire.

Subject to consultation with employees, the new Leeds office will bring together staff from across Burberry’s finance, HR and procurement, customer service and IT teams.

Burberry group chief executive Christopher Bailey said: “This is an important move for Burberry as we continue to deliver on the strategic priorities we outlined last year.

“In addition to the benefits it will bring to the business, opening an office in Leeds reinforces our commitment to the UK and to Yorkshire, home of our iconic trench coat.”

Burberry will remain headquartered in London.
